Does the app need an internet connection?
No. Everything — all 127,879 entries — is stored on your device. The only time the app uses the internet is to process a purchase or restore one.
What does the free trial include?
Everything, for 14 days from first launch. After that, searching and browsing all 127,879 entries stays free forever. A one-time $1.99 purchase reopens the full sense lists, examples, synonyms, word relations, quizzes and flashcards.
I bought it, then got a new phone. Do I pay again?
No. Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchase, signed in with the same Apple ID. The purchase is permanent and is not a subscription.
Why do some words have no written definition?
127,879 words are searchable, and 127,159 of them — 99.4% — carry a written definition. The few that do not show what can be sourced: part of speech, pronunciation and related words. The app never invents a meaning it cannot source.
Where do the definitions come from?
Princeton WordNet, with pronunciations from the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary. Both are openly licensed. See Licences below.
How do I delete my saved words and progress?
Settings → Delete my progress. This clears saved words, lists, notes and quiz results from your device. It cannot be undone.

This app collects no personal data. None at all. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.
What stays on your device
Saved words, your own lists, personal notes, quiz results and the flashcard review schedule are stored only on your device, in local storage. They are never transmitted anywhere. I cannot see them. Deleting the app deletes them.
What leaves your device
Nothing that identifies you. The dictionary works entirely offline. The internet is used in exactly two situations, both handled by Apple rather than by me:
- Making a purchase — handled by the App Store. I receive no payment details, no card number and no name.
- Restoring a purchase — the app asks the App Store whether this Apple ID already owns the unlock. It receives yes or no.
Speech
Read-aloud uses your device's built-in speech synthesiser. Nothing is sent to a server and no recording is made.
Children
The app is rated 4+ and suitable for all ages. Since no data is collected from anyone, no data is collected from children either.
Changes
If this policy ever changes it will be updated on this page with a new date. Since the app collects nothing, any change would only describe the same position more clearly.

A note on coverage
127,879 words are searchable and 127,159 — 99.4% — carry a written definition. This is a dictionary of the English language, not an encyclopedia: it defines words, and does not carry entries for people, towns or Latin genus names. The everyday grammatical words — the, of, and, because — are not covered by WordNet, so their definitions were written for this app, as were a set of example sentences. Nothing here is machine-generated to fill a gap.
